COVID-19 UPDATE: These sessions (2 days/grade level) will now be live online. We believe that the synchronous sessions will provide an opportunity to not only have a wonderful learning experience, but an opportunity to model online science learning strategies and tools. The sessions will be conducted with a combination of large-group presentations/discussions and breakout small group investigations/discussions.
To maintain the fidelity of the professional learning experience, we plan to model the science investigations just as if we met in person. To accomplish this we will send the books, equipment (e.g., laser thermometer, magnifying glass, ping-pong balls) and consumable materials directly to you. This will enable you to engage in professional learning wherever you choose to be during the two-day grade-level professional development. Each day, you will be doing investigations that are specific to your grade-level, aligned with the new science standards, with lessons you can use in your classroom. You will learn how to use the GRC lessons and the investigations are hands-on and use fun and interesting phenomena.
During the sessions, you will actively engage in doing science investigations as three-dimensional instruction is modeled and analyzed. The sessions feature the Gather, Reason, and Communicate Reasoning (GRC) instructional sequence and provide grade-level specific GRC investigations and lessons to teach each standard. The GRC lessons feature hands-on investigations that pique student curiosity and motivate students to read and write in science. The sessions model grade level-specific investigations. You will receive the book Teaching Science is Phenomenal! that describes three-dimensional science teaching and learning.
Registration is for two days is $250, which includes the book, lessons for each standard at your grade level, and all materials shipped to your home. You can add additional days for other grade-levels for $100 per day.
These sessions are co-sponsored by Davis School District, Partnership for Effective Science Teaching and Learning, and ELM Tree Publishing.
If you are traveling from out of the area, hotels are available nearby. Travel and hotel are not included in the registration cost, but please contact us if you need a room and we will help you find a reduced rate. The reduced rate rooms are limited, please contact as soon as you register for the workshop.
